ASHA WORKERS ZINE WORKSHOP

Venue: Protest site near Secretariat, Trivandrum, Kerala

Date: 8th August 2025 (11 a.m to 3 p.m)

On 8^th August 2025, we worked with Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers of Kerala who are protesting for fair wages, incentives, retirement benefits, and for their work to be acknowledged. I collaborated with social activist and photojournalist Harsh to organize a zine workshop where the women documented their own experiences of life; the ups and downs of working in the health sector, the joy, strength, and struggles of being a woman and part of a larger movement, the pressure of managing both home and work – especially during protests or long workdays – and how women are often expected to handle everything, etc. It was a space to tell the stories that matter to them. Twenty-seven Asha workers participated in this program, expressing themselves freely through drawing, embroidery, cut-up texts, and collages on the zine pages.
